Rugby World Cup predictions – Day Six

We are nearing the end of the first week of the Rugby World Cup and our Wednesday is drip feeding us another single game day. We see one of the last sides to get their tournament underway in Uruguay and they will be taking on the Flying Fijians in their second game.

Fiji vs Uruguay – Pool D

After already seeing the Fijians In action against the Wallabies this week, we have seen more than enough to know this team has the goods to match it with the best. That wont be their goal today however and against the lesser opponent they have made a number of changes. But do not fear fans of Fijian rugby, theres still truckloads of excitement out there to enjoy and they will be expected to run rampant! From the veteran Niki Goneva on the left wing to the young star Alvereti Veitokani at fullback you can expect fireworks. They have also named usual lock Leone Nakarawa at number eight which will be exciting to see him charging off the back of some set pieces.

The Uruguayans have had a decent 2019 so far, already beating some fellow World Cup teams like USA, Canada and Russia. One would expect that the powerful Fijians may be a step too far. Compared to four years ago when they only had four professional players in their World Cup squad, to now boasting 18 professionals. Regardless of that, this is still a young nation in international rugby and is still finding its place in the game. They have some standout players who will be worth keeping an eye on throughout their games, none more so than the captain Juan Manuel Gaminara who will start on the blindside flank. It always helps having experience and knowledge in the number ten jersey, which is exactly what Felipe Berchesi will bring his side to direct the backline if they see any ball. There is a good blend of youth and experience in this Uruguayan squad so it should be quite exciting to see what this team can pull together against Fiji.

RESULT = Fiji by 22
